Remastered from an older reflection (now standalone for zahradnik.io / Medium)
If you asked me today what kind of business I’d build first, the answer is simple:
A boring one.
Years ago, I advised founders to focus on niche ideas — and that advice still holds. Niche markets are easier to enter, easier to understand, and easier to serve.
But with time — and a few failed startups behind me — my perspective evolved.
Niches are good.
Boring markets are better.
Here’s why:
- Boring markets are predictable. Demand doesn’t depend on hype.
- They’re less saturated. Fewer founders dream of "unsexy" industries.
- Customers actually need the product. Not as a toy or a trend — but as a tool.
- Investors quietly love them. Lower risk, higher stability.
You may not “make a dent in the universe,” but you’ll build something that works — and something that funds your freedom.
Because boring business means fuel.
And once you have fuel, you can build whatever your heart wants.
If you’re thinking of building something:
Start with the predictable before you chase the profound.
Stability accelerates creativity.
Boring first.
Freedom second.
Legacy third.
